This painting began in 2020 when I was still experimenting with my urban cubist style and was finally completed in 2023. As a father of two boys myself, it is really easy for me to create genuine images of black fathers with their sons and daughters. A Mother’s Love was a different type of challenge that required a lot of empathy and research through observation. As with most of my paintings the color theory involved in this painting and the color harmonies on individuals faces provide context to the viewer about their relationship with one another.
The different textures within the shapes that make up the woman and her child pay homage to my original artistic influencers, my Mom’s quilting gang: The Uhuru Quilting Guild and also represent how we as people are made up of the many thoughts, situations, and moments that occur in our lives. Some of these times may have been rough, jagged, bumpy, or smooth and easy going like long flowing parallel lines. You could still be holding on to some “texture”, but they all come together to make up the beautiful individual that you are…like scraps of fabric that make up a beautiful quilt.
This is the original and only canvas print of A Mother’s Love. Don’t miss out on adding this unique 1 of 1, signed and authenticated, 16”x 20” piece into your wall.
